In observance of Veteran’s Day on November 11, the Spirit Committee will be establishing a Field of Heroes. The Field of Heroes is a visual display of personalized American flags showing support for our retired and fallen military heroes. To request to have your military hero included in this display, we ask that you email the Spirit Committee at Spirit@TownhomesofWestlake.com by November 5 with the name, rank and branch of service for your heroes so we can personalize his/her flag. After Veteran’s Day, the flag is yours to keep, so also include your street address so the flag can be delivered to you.

This is an opportunity for us all to come together as a community to remember and to honor those who have served.  A short history of Veteran’s Day is below.

November 11 is Veterans Day. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was established in 1938 as a U.S. legal holiday to commemorate the end of World War I which officially took place on November 11, 1918 and to honor WW1 veterans. After World War II and the Korean War, Congress amended the original act and on June 1, 1954 “Armistice” was changed to “Veterans” and November 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
